EXPORT YOUR SOLIDWORKS MODEL USING THE SOLIDWORKS XR EXPORTER PLUGIN

XR EXPORTER WORKFLOW

  • Load your Solidworks model in Solidworks (XR exporter is only available from 2019 onwards, for previous versions click here)
  • Select Fle -> Save As…
    • Use the drop down under Save as type: to select Extended Reality (*.gltf) – note that you need to download and install the Solidworks XR exporter (beta) using your Solidworks login
  • Specify the file name and directory (excavatar.GLTF in my case)
  • Hit Save!!!
  • Go to the corresponding directory and you should see some 355 files generated during the export process.
  • Select all the files generated in the directory using the Ctrl-A key combination
  • Right click to select Send To -> Compressed (zipped) Folder option
  • Windows will create a .zip file within the same folder with all the files into one single file.
  • You can rename the file as you please. I rename it to excavator.zip in my case.
  • Note that the XR exporter currently does not have support for exporting surface models and will fail if your Solidworks model has surfaces in it. If this is the case with you, you can try out the Exxar Stream plugin which provides a one click content publishing directly from Solidworks without the need for manual exports & publishing
